Purple cannabis is not a separate strain but a trait: plants whose buds and leaves turn purple, violet or almost black in the final weeks of flowering. The colour comes from anthocyanins, the same compounds that give blueberries and red cabbage their colour, and is strongest with cool nights at the end of bloom. In this category you will find every strain in our range that naturally turns purple.
The potential is in the genetics, but the grower decides how much of it shows. A night temperature five to ten degrees below the daytime temperature in the last two to three weeks of bloom switches the colour on. Outdoors that happens by itself in September and October; indoors you lower the night temperature or let the room cool down with the lamp off. A plant that turns purple without cold usually has strongly purple genetics, such as Granddaddy Purple. Purple leaves during warm nights can also be a phosphorus deficiency; check the rest of the plant.
The colour itself has no taste, but the strains that turn purple often have a sweet, berry-like or grape-like profile, because the genetics come from the same lines. Purple Punch and Granddaddy Purple are the best-known examples. The effect differs per strain: Purple Haze is uplifting, the Granddaddy line relaxing and heavy.
Both. Outdoors autumn provides the cool nights that bring out the colour, and you harvest in October. Indoors the autoflower variants are the most practical: they finish in 9 to 10 weeks and you can deliberately drop the temperature in the final weeks.
No. The colour says nothing about the THC content. Check the percentage on the product page; in this category it ranges from almost zero (Purplematic CBD) to above 20 percent.
With strains like Granddaddy Purple and Purple Punch almost always. With others it depends on the cold in the final weeks of bloom; without cool nights some plants stay green.
