Gelato is the best known of the American dessert strains: a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, developed in California in the early 2010s. The name says it all: the taste is sweet, creamy and fruity, like ice cream. Add a high THC content, often around or above 20 percent, and buds that turn deep purple and green under a thick layer of resin. This category holds every Gelato strain in our range.

How do you grow Gelato?

Gelato is an indica-dominant hybrid that stays compact, usually between 80 and 120 cm indoors, and branches well. Flowering takes 8 to 10 weeks. The plant asks a little more attention than a Skunk: it likes a stable temperature and humidity that is not too high, because the dense buds are prone to mould in the final weeks. Outdoors in northern Europe Gelato only does well in a warm, sheltered spot, harvested in October; the autoflower variants are the safer outdoor choice because they finish earlier. The purple colour comes out best with cool nights.

Taste and effect

Sweet, creamy and fruity, each strain with its own accent: vanilla in Wedding Gelato, mint in Green Gelato, berries in Blue Gelato. The effect is powerful and starts clear and cheerful before settling into deep physical relaxation. Because of the high THC content Gelato is not a beginner's strain to smoke, even though the grow itself is quite doable.

The grow is doable for anyone with one grow behind them; pay particular attention to humidity during flowering. The effect is strong, so start carefully.
