Northern Lights cannabis seeds

Northern Lights is the most famous indica in the world. The strain emerged in the seventies on the American west coast from Afghan genetics and was stabilised in the Netherlands in the eighties by Sensi Seeds. It has been the benchmark for what an indica should be ever since: compact, fast, resinous, with a heavy relaxing effect and a plant that punishes virtually no mistakes. This category holds every Northern Lights variant in our range.

Which Northern Lights strains do we have?

  • Northern Lights feminised: the standard version, only female plants, 7 to 8 weeks of flowering.
  • Northern Lights regular: male and female plants, for anyone who wants to breed; this is the line countless strains are built on.
  • Northern Light Auto and Northern Lights Autoflower: ready 9 to 10 weeks after germination, indoors or outdoors.
  • Northern Lights #5 x Haze, feminised and regular: the classic cross with Haze, sativa-dominant, with a longer bloom and a more uplifting effect.
  • Northern Lights Haze: our own version of that cross.

Why is Northern Lights so popular?

Because it does everything well. The plant stays small, usually 80 to 120 cm indoors, branches little and puts its energy into one thick main cola and a few side buds. Flowering is short, 7 to 8 weeks, and the smell during the grow is mild for a cannabis plant, which makes it suitable for anyone who wants to grow discreetly. The yield is good for such a compact plant and the buds are hard and covered in resin. The THC content is between 16 and 20 percent.

Indoors or outdoors?

Northern Lights is first and foremost an indoor strain: small, fast and low-odour. Outdoors it does well in a sunny spot and finishes in early October; the autoflower variants are the safest outdoor choice because they are ready in September. Because of the dense buds, air circulation in the final weeks of flowering matters.

Effect and taste

Sweet and earthy, with a hint of pine. The effect is the classic indica: physical, calming and heavy, an evening strain par excellence. The Haze crosses are clear and uplifting instead, and flower for 10 to 11 weeks.

Is Northern Lights suitable for beginners?

Yes, it is one of the easiest strains there is. It tolerates feeding mistakes, stays small and finishes fast. For a first grow the autoflower version is the simplest.

What is the difference between Northern Lights and Northern Lights #5 x Haze?

Plain Northern Lights is a pure indica: small, fast, relaxing. The #5 x Haze is crossed with a sativa and grows bigger, flowers longer and gives a clear, energetic effect.
